How to interpret your score

The score is a sum of frequency responses across the four domains: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, reduced personal accomplishment, and compassion fatigue.

Scores between 0 and 20 suggest a sustainable workload. Scores between 21 and 40 suggest moderate strain that deserves attention. Scores between 41 and 55 indicate elevated risk worth addressing with supervision or workload changes. Scores above 56 suggest high risk and a need for support now.

What this burnout self-screen covers

The assessment draws on Maslach-style framing used in counselor fatigue research. It asks how often you experience emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, reduced personal accomplishment, and compassion fatigue. Each item is answered with a frequency, and the result is a private score that highlights which of these domains deserve attention.

Use this tool to start supervision conversations, peer support check-ins, or self-care planning. The score is a starting point, not a verdict, and the highest scores are an invitation to seek professional support.

Use it for moments like

  • You just ended a heavy caseload week and want to gauge how depleted you actually feel.
  • You are renegotiating schedule, scope, or rates and need a baseline to measure improvement.
  • You mentor newer clinicians and want a structured way to invite reflection on burnout risk.
  • You are returning from leave and want to compare current energy to pre-leave patterns.

FAQ

Questions therapists ask before using this calculator

Is this a clinical diagnosis of burnout or compassion fatigue?

No. This is a self-screening tool that helps you notice patterns in your workload and energy. It does not replace a clinical assessment, supervision consultation, or licensed evaluation.

How are the four domains of burnout measured?

Items reflect Maslach-style framing: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization (distance from client empathy), reduced personal accomplishment, and compassion fatigue. Frequency responses are summed to a 0-60 score.

Will my answers be saved or shared anywhere?

Your answers are stored in your own browser using localStorage so the tool can preserve your progress between sessions. Nothing is uploaded to EasyMindCare or any third party.

What should I do if my score is elevated or high?

Talk with a supervisor, consultant, peer, or your own therapist about the workload factors behind your score. Consider caseload adjustments, scope-of-practice audits, and protected self-care routines.

How often should I retake the burnout assessment?

Many solo therapists retake the assessment quarterly or whenever their caseload, schedule, or life circumstances change. Track the score over time to spot trends.
